On August 24 at 2:10 a.m., officers assigned to the COPS Unit were conducting a neighborhood check when they observed a vehicle parked in the area of Thomas Hardy Place in Waldorf. Officers made contact with three occupants and detected the odor of cannabis. While conducting an investigation, one of the passengers fled from the car on foot. He was apprehended and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun with an extended magazine in his waistband. Jason Raymond Castro, Jr., age 20, of Waldorf, was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm, handgun in a car, and a handgun on person. The remaining subjects were released. On August 26, a judge ordered Castro to be held without bond at the Charles County Detention Center. PFC Swann is investigating.
