On March 11 at 10:44 p.m., patrol officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of Promenade Place near Aldergate Place in Waldorf. Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Officers utilized stop sticks, which rendered the vehicle inoperable. The driver fled from the vehicle but was apprehended without further incident. Officers recovered a large quantity of cannabis and a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen in Virginia. John Thomas White, III, age 20 of Hyattsville, who is prohibited from possession of a handgun, was charged with theft, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, loaded handgun in car, possession with the intent to distribute drugs, and traffic charges. White is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond. Officer Bohac is investigating.
