OFFICER ASSAULTED WHILE PROTECTING MAN AT COURTHOUSE: On March 12 at 9:06 a.m., court security officers assigned to the Charles County Courthouse in La Plata observed a man assault another man outside the entrance of the courthouse. The officers went to investigate and observed the 6’4”, 245 pound suspect yelling and screaming. Officers gave several commands for the suspect to surrender, but he refused. One officer attempted to approach the man, but the suspect suddenly grabbed the officer’s arm and threw him to the ground, dislocating the officer’s shoulder. Officers utilized an electric stun device and were eventually able to subdue the man who was still fighting. The suspect, age 39, was transported to a hospital for an evaluation; he did not have any apparent injuries. PFC S. Stanley is continuing the investigating.
DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY/THEFT FROM AUTOS: On March 11 at 12:51 p.m., officers discovered three vehicles were broken into at the Mattawoman Beantown park-and-ride commuter lot. The front passenger side windows were shattered and two stereos were stolen. Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward for anyone who provides a tip that leads to an arrest in these thefts. ATTEMPTED THEFT OF MOTORCYCLE: On March 11 at 7:11 a.m., two suspects entered a shed in the 5700 block of Bicknell Road in Indian Head and began pushing a motorcycle out of the shed toward a nearby pick-up truck. A homeowner observed the suspects and chased after them, but the suspects escaped. The suspects are described as two males, possibly white, about 6’0”, wearing camouflage coveralls and driving a white truck with a small utility trailer. Cpl R. Cadrette is investigating.
BURGLARY: On March 11 between 12 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., unknown suspect(s) broke out a window of a house in the 400 block of Indian Head Avenue in Indian Head, entered inside and stole jewelry and other items. PFC B. Flynn is investigating.
